Buzz Ferner, 63, of Kona died Aug. 29 in Honolulu. Born in Long Beach, Calif., he was a carpenter. Memorial service 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Kahaluu Beach Park in Kona. Catherine Kaawa Lau, 87, of Hilo, formerly of Honolulu, died Sept. 8 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired men’s department manager for the former Liberty House. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Aiea, Oahu. Mass at 11 a.m. Burial 1 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery in Kaneohe, Oahu. Aloha attire. Survived by sons, Walter (Sandra) Lau of Kona and Stephen (Gaylynn Lehua) Lau of Hilo; daughter, Kehaulani (Jube) Kuewa of Honolulu; sisters, Alice Chun, Naomi Wilkinson and Diana Leialoha Ganon of Honolulu; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. Jon Phillip Lewis, 76, of Honolulu died Sept. 2 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in California, he was a retired engineer for the City and County of Honolulu. Scattering of ashes Oct. 28 in Hilo. Survived by companion, Phyllis Furutani; daughters, Debbie (Reid) Takayama and Kimberly (Leo) Kaya; sisters, Cassie Wingerder, Janice Johnson and Virginia (Gigi) Badker; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Leodora Gladys Conn is survived by, among others, son Gay Spencer of Kona. An obituary published Tuesday erroneously listed him as a son-in-law.
